Quickly And Easily Create RAD Content With These Free Tools
Yep – I said rad. Let’s bring it back people! Writing content is hard for some of us. I’ll admit – I really don’t like writing that much. But we all know you’ve got to create great content for SEO and social media… Guess what – that doesn’t ALWAYS mean you have to write or produce a video. So – I have recently been using and checking out a few different sites and tools as I’ve been looking to create or help create content for some clients. Came across a few cool things that I wanted to share. Some of these are new, some not so new. All of them are cool friggin RAD and can be used for SEO, social media, link building, etc.
Let’s get started…
Infogr.am
Create Infographics
We recently worked with a client on an Olympics-themed promotion, and since I had the Olympics on the mind – I used infogr.am to create this “Olympic Medal Count” infographic. It’s not the greatest infographic in the world and I didn’t give it much thought – but know this:
- I spent a total of 20 minutes on putting it together
- I have ZERO design skills/capabilities. ZERO.
- All I did was track down some publicly available information and summed it up
- It is 100% relevant to the topic of my client’s micro-site
- I saw many tables showing the Olympic medal count – but not any graphics like this. So now I have something unique AND shareable/likeable related to their promotion
Ranker.com
Top 10 Corporate & Company Blogs
Disclaimer – I did the initial SEO consulting for Ranker.com – doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome.
Storify.com
Postano.com
- Creating a display for events by simply having it track hashtags for the event
- Bringing the social media conversation to your Website – and advertising (getting links to) your OWN url instead of sending people to facebook.
Example: Content idea: Why not go ahead and make a Postano out of the Twitter accounts you used in your Storify story or Ranker list? Here’s an example – remember those “Top 10 Corporate & Company Blogs” from our Ranker list above? This Postano is an aggregation of the RSS feeds from those top 10 blogs. Something like this could easily be turned into an effective piece of egobait. There are much more exciting examples of how brands use Postano on their site.
Bonus Round
Vizify – Interactive Personal Infographics
There isn’t a way to embed these (at least – not that I know of), but I got an invite to Vizify and here’s an infographic of ME! Might be cool to add this to my bio page on Amplify Interactive and link to the page on Vizify so people could get to know me in a different way. (thanks to Bryce Hanson for the Vizify invite)
You gotta click on the pic to see it in action.
See also – Vizify does TweetSheets too. Here’s @AmplifySEM‘s

There you go – now you can go do something cool. Why don’t you share what you’ve made and link to it from the comments below?

My client has a web developer who claimed yesterday that graphics rarely influence a site’s SEO: “…graphics rarely add to a site’s SEO, and in fact, revolving or transitory graphics can hurt a site. Furthermore, as Google moves to prioritize authorship over context in its algorithm, it will become increasingly important to tie content to Google+ (defocusing [sic] on keywords). All this tends to make me think that the visual aspects of the homepage are less important than, say, the blog or writing on other blogs and forums.” The site is for a brick-and-mortar retail store. What say you about that?
Great Post! Thanks for the mention/link Ben. I’ll go ahead and pay it forward by mentioning a presidential campaign social aggregator made by Tim Resnik at Audiencewise. Its called CampaignPop and can be found here: http://www.campaignpop.com/. With the Presidential race heating up, it can be a nice place to grab some quick sentiment stats for the nominees.
Thanks Bryce – I know Tim and Matt well… I’ll have to make sure they see this.
Anna – graphics have to be used correctly but they don’t “hurt” SEO. if you use them in place of real content for on-page optimization they can – ie – not using any words on your pages. But in the context of creating a great user experience to support your content – they’re fine/good/great. In this case, I’m talking about the use of graphics to create something shareable/likeable/linkable (like an infographic) that would absolutely support SEO by improving the authority of the domain.
G+ and authorship and all that should support your site, and you should use those tools and leverage them to improve the visibility of your site and its content – but those are tools/channels to support your strategy and improve awareness… That doesn’t mean the primary site shouldn’t be informative, thorough, useful, usable, etc. Using one of these tools to create something for your blog or community or target audience that you also use to promote your business is good SEO, just like creating on-site content in the language that your target audiences uses.
Thanks, Ben! The response was an eruptive tangent based on my request for a larger image (embedded with keywords) on the homepage, which is already integrated with other content. I just want people to be intrigued by an image larger than a thumbnail so that they’ll go deeper into the site. As far as your post, it has inspired me to create an “infographic” on how to choose the perfect pair of shoes…(heading to Infogr.am now)…Thanks again.
P.S. Using Postano now for another client and love how it integrates!
Anna –
Awesome – glad it helped & inspired you to do something new (post a link to your infogr.am when you’re done with it!). Also glad you like Postano!
