October + Google News = Pr0n?

Posted on: 10-16-2007 Posted in: Search Industry Posted by: Christian Bullock | Email the Author

For whatever reason, Google News likes to show off nude photos during October. It happened last year. And it happened again this year (by the way, both links are indeed both safe to click – it’s not like we’re Google News here!).

This second instance of Google News posting inappropriate images on their homepage tells me several things about search engine crawlers in general:

  • Cannot tell right from wrong
  • Should not be 100% depended upon to choose content that you want to display
  • Apparently do not discriminate when it comes to displaying male or female pr0n

What will Google News display next October…?
